What is tree stump grinding?

Tree stump grinding is the process of mechanically grinding down a tree stump using a specialised stump grinder. It reduces the stump to wood chips, removing it below ground level and preventing regrowth.

How long does stump grinding take?

It depends on the stump size and hardness, but typically:

  • Small stumps: 15-30 minutes

  • Medium stumps: 30-60 minutes

  • Large/hardwood stumps: 1-2 hours

What types of tree stumps do you remove?

We grind all types of stumps, including:
Eucalyptus  (gum trees)
Pine  (softwood but large root systems)
Palm  (fibrous and messy)
Oak  (hardwood, takes longer)
Fruit Trees  (like citrus, fig, and olive trees)

Can you grind a stump that’s close to a house, fence, or pipes?

Yes! Professional stump grinding equipment can operate in tight spaces. However, if the stump is near underground utilities, we may recommend extra precautions.

Will the tree grow back after stump grinding?

No, stump grinding removes the root crown, stopping regrowth. However, some species like eucalyptus or willow may attempt to sprout from deep roots—this can be prevented with herbicide treatment.

What happens to the wood chips after stump grinding?

The wood chips are left on-site and can be used as mulch for your garden, or we can remove them for an extra fee.

Can I plant a new tree where the stump was removed?

Yes, but it’s best to remove excess wood chips and replace them with fresh soil to allow for healthy root growth.

 Is stump grinding dangerous?

Stump grinders are powerful machines with sharp cutting wheels, so only trained professionals should operate them. Safety gear and precautions are always used.

Do you need council approval for stump removal?

In most Australian cities, council approval is NOT required for removing a stump, but always check with your local council for any regulations.

Does stump grinding damage my lawn or garden?

No, our machines are designed to minimise lawn damage, and we clean up the area after grinding.

What’s the difference between stump grinding and stump removal?

  • Stump Grinding = Grinds the stump below the surface but leaves roots in the ground.

  • Stump Removal = The entire stump and root system are dug out, which is more invasive and expensive.

Do you remove surface roots as well?

Yes, if required. Some trees (e.g., figs, pines) have wide surface roots, which we can grind down for a clean finish.

Can I rent a stump grinder and do it myself?

While DIY stump grinders are available for rent, they’re not as powerful as professional machines. If the stump is large, it’s best to hire us to avoid damage or injury.

How do I book a stump grinding service?

Simply call us or send an enquiry online! We provide free quotes and can arrange a convenient time to remove your stump.
